The new boat is the successor to the 445 Grand'Large (test in YACHT 12/2011) and, as part of the redesign, has the same typical characteristics as her sisters in the current programme. Specifically, and in comparison to the previous model, this means: larger windows in the hull and on the cabin superstructure, more and flush-mounted hatches on deck as well as a completely redesigned cockpit with significantly more space to work, more easily accessible storage options and a larger bathing hatch at the stern.
Above all, however, the hull designed by Umberto Felci has become fuller, with a noticeably voluminous bow section, a wider stern and, of course, the pronounced chines. The current design allows the designers to position the mast and keel slightly further aft. This means that a self-tacking jib is now possible, which is fitted as standard from the shipyard. A larger genoa with 106 per cent overlap will still be available as an option.
Dufour's interior design is based on the innovative layouts of its larger sisters, the Dufour 500 (YACHT 3/2013 test) and the Dufour 560, the flagship of the range. The galley is attached directly to the main bulkhead as a split unit. This places the galley area more towards the centre of the boat, which is particularly advantageous when working underway and in rough seas. The seating area around the large saloon table is offset aft and also integrates a small but movable navigation system, which can be worked on from either side. However, with this arrangement, which is more orientated towards the needs of owners, there is only one wet room at the rear.
If you don't like this arrangement, the new Dufour 460 GL can also be ordered with a long galley on the port side. This layout is a prerequisite for the configuration with two bathrooms aft. A variant designed primarily for the charter sector also provides for a split foredeck with two separate cabins, each with its own toilet room. A layout with four cabins and four bathrooms is a rarity in this length class.
The price has not yet been announced by the French company Dufour. However, the premiere of the Dufour 460 is already planned for the trade fair. Yachting Festival de Cannes (8 to 13 September) is planned.
